About Zion

Zion is a Lake County city on the far northern edge of Illinois, close to Lake Michigan and the Wisconsin border. The city was founded in the early 1900s as a planned religious community, and its street grid and name still reflect that unusual origin. Today Zion is more broadly a working residential city, with access to Illinois Beach State Park, the lakefront, and nearby employment centers in Waukegan, Gurnee, and southeastern Wisconsin. Kellogg Creek and the Lake Michigan shoreline give it more natural context than many Chicago suburbs.
