Score

Low Humidity

Lower sustained relative humidity and damp-air exposure score higher using NOAA 1991-2020 hourly climate normals.

Scale0-100

Higher values rank better for this score.

How It's Calculated

The latest published score is normalized to a 0-100 scale. The method below explains what the score rewards, with technical source metadata available for audit.

Scoring Method

How the ranking is built

Low Humidity rewards places with less sustained relative humidity and damp-air exposure.

  1. 1

Humidity burden is a weighted blend: 25% annual RH excess, 35% hours at 80% RH or higher, 15% hours at 90% RH or higher, and 25% indoor-70F hours at 50% RH or higher.

  2. 2

The burden is confidence-shrunk when station evidence is weaker.

  3. 3

The score is inverse percentile-rank normalized over the full scored distribution, so lower humidity burden scores higher.

What This Score Means

Low Humidity rewards places with less sustained relative humidity and damp-air exposure.

Statistics Feeding This Score

  • Annual average relative humidity

Average relative humidity computed from hourly temperature and dew point normals.

Source: NOAA U.S. Climate Normals, hourly
  • Hours at 80% RH or higher

Annual hourly-normal count for very damp air.

Source: NOAA U.S. Climate Normals, hourly
  • Indoor-70F hours at 50% RH or higher

Outdoor moisture converted to a 70F indoor relative-humidity proxy.

Source: NOAA U.S. Climate Normals, hourly
  • Station match confidence

Derived from station count, distance, and elevation fit for the place.

Source: Derived from NOAA station matches

Known Limits

  • Hourly station normals are environmental proxies, not forecasts or indoor-environment measurements.
  • Nearby stations are weighted by distance and elevation fit, then lower-confidence estimates are shrunk toward the all-place mean.
  • Allergy-risk scores do not include local spore counts, medical outcomes, building ventilation, or indoor humidity.
