Abbeville, MS

Abbeville is a quiet, tight-knit town in Lafayette County, located about ten miles north of Oxford along Highway 7. The town dates back to the 1830s, when settlers from South Carolina established a community near the historic trade route between Memphis and Oxford. In those early frontier days, Chickasaw Chief Toby operated a local river ferry, though the settlement later had to rebuild after suffering heavy damage during the Civil War. Today, Abbeville provides a calm, friendly atmosphere with deep historic roots and convenient access to the surrounding university community.
