About Acton

Acton is an unincorporated Los Angeles County community between the Sierra Pelona and San Gabriel Mountains, near the Antelope Valley. It began as a railroad camp in the 1870s during construction of the Southern Pacific line, and it still feels more rural and mountain-adjacent than suburban Los Angeles. Acton has horse properties, winding roads, small local businesses, and the Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District. Farm Sanctuary was founded there in 1986, adding an unusual animal-welfare note to an otherwise residential residential community.
