About Adams
Adams is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in eastern Texas County, Oklahoma. The 2020 Census counted 148 residents. Adams grew with the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad line and the region's wheat trade. The 1926 Adams Wood-frame Grain Elevator was among the first buildings at the townsite and stored wheat for shipment to Fort Worth and Galveston; its National Register nomination places it beside the railroad bed and describes wheat as the region's chief crop. Hooker Public Schools serves the surrounding area, and Optima Lake lies nearby in Texas County. Adams's local story is a railroad-and-grain history tied to the wider Panhandle road and school network.
