Addison's public library has turned the village's linguistic diversity into a practical civic service. The library's English-and-Spanish Community Resource Guide organizes free and low-cost local assistance, work that earned a national reference-services award in 2024. A renovation marked by a May 2026 grand reopening added a new makerspace, refreshed study and computer areas, a children's play space, improved accessibility, and a staffed drive-up window. Army Trail Road carries an older layer of local geography through Addison. An Illinois historical marker records that the road followed an Indigenous trail toward present-day Beloit and that U.S. Army reinforcements used the route during the Black Hawk War in 1832. Addison incorporated in 1884 with 400 residents. Three buildings on the Addison Historical Museum campus preserve the later village story: the 1892 Balzer House contains artifact and photograph exhibits, the restored 1893 Century House interprets domestic life around the turn of the twentieth century, and the Coach House holds displays on agriculture, banking, railroads, tools, and local government.

Current recreation ranges from neighborhood facilities to a regional path. The Park District's 50-acre Community Park is adding four pickleball courts, enhanced basketball courts, a futsal court, sand volleyball, a small soccer field, a pavilion, seating, and improved walking-path access in a renovation scheduled for completion in summer 2026. Its existing grounds include playgrounds, ballfields, outdoor fitness equipment, and picnic space beside the Community Recreation Center, which hosts camps, older-adult activities, before- and after-school care, and indoor sports. The 32-mile Salt Creek Greenway Trail passes through the local park system on its route between Busse Woods and Brookfield Zoo. At Friendship Plaza, the Village Green provides a separate outdoor setting for Rock 'N Wheels concerts, commemorations, and other community events.
