About Ahmeek

Ahmeek is a village in Keweenaw County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The 2020 census counted 127 residents. The village is located within Allouez Township and is the only incorporated municipality in Keweenaw County. The name Ahmeek is derived from the Ojibwe language. Chopp Park, which is located within the village. The historic Houghton County Traction Company streetcar station in Ahmeek, a federally-recognised historic site where you can now spend the night. That mix gives Ahmeek a clear local shape within Michigan, with older layers still visible in current places. The local scoop is a place whose streets, landmarks, and institutions keep its earlier story close to the present. The village takes its name from the Ojibwe word, amik, which means " Beaver ", and it was named so because of an abundance of beavers in the vicinity of the present-day village.
