Alamo, NV

Alamo is an unincorporated town in Lincoln County, about 90 miles north of Las Vegas on U.S. 93. It sits in Pahranagat Valley, a green ribbon of springs, lakes, ranches, and irrigated ground running through a much drier stretch of Nevada. The post office dates to 1905, and the valley's ranching history still matters to the town's practical role. Alamo is also the place where a Great Basin Highway trip can turn west toward the Extraterrestrial Highway, making gas, food, and a little roadside curiosity part of the local mix.

South of town, Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge brings wetlands and grasslands into the desert frame, with migratory birds passing through the valley. Closer to town, Lincoln County tourism points to rodeo grounds, an RV park, and a splash pad, while the valley's schools are concentrated in Alamo. The result is an unusual small-town combination: ranch errands and school runs in one direction, birdwatchers and highway travelers in another, and the long Nevada sky holding both together.
