About Alamo
Alamo is a city in the agricultural Rio Grande Valley of southern Hidalgo County, Texas. Founded in 1909 and named after the Alamo Mission in San Antonio, the community of approximately 20,300 is a noted winter resort and retirement destination surrounded by citrus groves. The city serves as a gateway to Mexico via nearby Nuevo Progreso, as well as the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge, with public education provided by the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District.
