About San Juan

San Juan is a Hidalgo County city in the Rio Grande Valley, organized in 1909 in part through the efforts of John Closner. Almost all of the city is served by the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District, tying it closely to its neighboring communities in one of South Texas's largest school systems. San Juan is also known regionally for the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle. It feels like a Valley city where schools, faith, borderland culture, and everyday commerce all matter.
