About Alamosa

Alamosa is the county seat and most populous municipality of Alamosa County, Colorado, situated along the Rio Grande. Established by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad in 1878, the city of approximately 9,879 serves as the commercial center of the San Luis Valley and is the home of Adams State University, founded in 1921. The city is also widely recognized as the primary gateway to Great Sand Dunes National Park.
