About Albany

Albany is Clinton County’s seat, a home-rule city that grew around Benjamin Dowell’s early-nineteenth-century tavern and became county seat in 1837. U.S. 127 runs through town about six miles north of Tennessee, while Albany Rock rises northeast at the edge of the Cumberland Plateau. Clinton County schools and the county library are both based in the city, so Albany’s local map has the courthouse role, the mountain spur, and everyday town services in one frame. Albany is southern Kentucky with a tavern-born county seat and a rock point above the road.
