Albion, IN

Albion is Noble County's seat, centered on a courthouse square chosen in 1846 when the settlement was still called Center. The 2020 census counted 2,222 residents. The present Noble County Courthouse rose in 1887–89 after earlier buildings burned or proved too small, and the square's brick-and-limestone Romanesque building still gives the town its clearest orientation. The railroad arrived in 1874 and helped bring prosperity and construction to the square, so Albion's civic center carries both county government and railroad-era history. Albion Elementary, Central Noble Middle and High School, the Noble County Public Library branch, town services, and small businesses fill in the daily map around the square.

Chain O'Lakes State Park and Bear Lake lie nearby, putting a chain of northern Indiana lakes close to the county-seat routine. The courthouse, library, and park connection make Albion easy to read: county work gathers in the center, schools and shops spread along the town streets, and water-and-woods recreation starts just beyond the built-up grid. The local detail to remember is that the courthouse was selected before the town had its final name, yet it still organizes Albion today.
