Alcolu, SC

Alcolu is a Clarendon County census-designated place four miles north of Manning, with Interstate 95 tracing its southern edge and the post office carrying ZIP 29001. D.W. Alderman established the community after arriving in 1885 and building a lumber and mill business. The Paroda Railroad followed in 1906, linking the timber operation to the wider county. Alcolu grew as a company mill town, with housing and local routines built around the work.

That history is still visible in the way Alcolu sits between the highway, the post office, and Manning, the county seat. The mill-era street pattern remains easy to see from the local roads, and the post office keeps a daily address in the middle of it. Clarendon School District 2 serves the area, while the Alcolu Revitalization District focuses on educational and employment opportunities. The community is small, but its map carries a clear sequence: timber, mill, railroad, school, and the roads that now connect Alcolu to I-95 and the rest of Clarendon County.
