Alexis, IL

Alexis is a quiet village of roughly 800 residents straddling the county line between Warren and Mercer in western Illinois. Founded as a railroad depot in 1870, it still carries the straightforward charm of a classic Midwestern farm town. Its compact downtown features historic brick storefronts and the old Alexis Opera House, which has been repurposed over the years to house local shops and small businesses.

One of the most unique things about the community is Alexis Fire Equipment. Based on East Broadway since 1947, this homegrown manufacturer builds custom fire trucks for departments across the country, providing dozens of steady local jobs in engineering and skilled metalwork. Outside of work, residents gather at Alexis Community Park and stay connected through neighborhood events and youth sports. It is a peaceful, down-to-earth place to settle down while keeping nearby hubs like Monmouth and Galesburg within easy reach.
