Algoma, MS

Algoma is a small, quiet community of around 700 residents located about six miles south of Pontotoc along Mississippi Highway 15. It gives newcomers a relaxed country atmosphere surrounded by open fields and family farms, with everyday necessities right down the road. Local children attend the Pontotoc County School District, and neighbors often catch up at church, the post office, or the popular Cross-Tie Festival held every October.

The town was originally built around the timber and railroad boom in the early 1900s, when local mills supplied thousands of wooden ties for expanding train lines. While the depot has vanished and agriculture has taken center stage, that heritage still shapes the community's friendly identity. Today, Algoma offers plenty of breathing room and peaceful rural living, paired with a quick commute to dining and shopping in nearby Pontotoc.
