Allentown, FL

Allentown is a Santa Rosa County community at the meeting of State Roads 87 and 89 with County Road 182. Locals call the intersection downtown Allentown, or simply the caution light, even though the place remains unincorporated. Jesse Carter Allen founded it around 1842 after homesteading there following a yellow-fever outbreak in Floridatown. Central School and the volunteer fire department are part of the local map. Allentown is northwest Florida in the plainest sense: a named crossroads with a long memory and three roads running through it.
