About Alliance

Alliance is a town in Pamlico County on North Carolina’s coastal plain, where most of the land remains farmland. Its name reaches back to the Farmers Alliance movement, the rural organization that spread through the South in the late nineteenth century. Pamlico County had been formed only a couple of years earlier, so the name connects the town to a period when farmers were building new institutions and political networks of their own. Alliance received its town charter in 1965.

The town’s scale—733 residents in the 2020 census—fits its landscape of fields, country roads, and scattered homes. The community is part of the New Bern micropolitan area, yet its daily feel is shaped by agriculture and the low, open terrain of eastern North Carolina. A town charter gave Alliance a formal municipal frame, while the land around it kept the older rural pattern in place. There is a particular directness to the name: it points to cooperation as a founding idea, and that idea still fits a small place where neighbors, farm families, and local institutions are closely connected across Pamlico County.
