Alturas, CA

Alturas is the only incorporated city and the county seat of Modoc County, California. Located at an elevation of 4,370 feet in the Shasta Cascade region, the city sits at the confluence of the north and south forks of the Pit River. Originally the site of an Achumawi village and later named Dorris Bridge, the remote community functions as a regional economic center. Alturas serves as the headquarters for the Modoc National Forest, bordered by the Warner Mountains to the east and the Modoc Plateau to the north.
