About Alvord

Alvord is a Wise County town that began as Nina before taking its current name in 1882. The new name honored the president of the Fort Worth and Denver Railway, and a post office opened that same year. By 1890 Alvord had become a retail center for nearby farmers. There is no connection to the Arizona outlaw Burt Alvord, despite the name overlap. Alvord is a North Texas town with a railway name, a farm trade, and one useful bit of name trivia.
