About Andale

Andale is a Sedgwick County city whose name is a handshake between two pioneer families: J. Will Dale and George Anderson. The town was chartered alongside the railroad in 1885, and the tracks helped turn a prairie settlement into a shipping point. Andale incorporated in 1901; St. Joseph parish’s history records the German Catholic families who arrived as the area filled in. Renwick USD 267 serves the community, with Andale High School and one elementary school. The city sits northwest of Wichita, but its own name still carries the story of the two landowners who would not sell town ground unless both families appeared on the sign.
