About Angels
Angels, better known as Angels Camp, is the only incorporated city in Calaveras County and one of California's Gold Country towns. It began as a mining camp in 1848 after Henry Pinkney Angell and a group of prospectors searched the area for gold. Angels Creek runs through the middle of town, and the city sits around 1,400 feet above sea level. The Mark Twain jumping-frog association gives Angels Camp a literary oddity that still colors its public identity.
