Angus, TX

Angus is a city in Navarro County, six miles south of Corsicana along Interstate 45 and the Union Pacific Railroad. The 2020 census counted 444 residents. The city sits in the north-central Texas Blackland Prairie, with the highway and rail line running alongside a community connected to Corsicana for services, work, and school. Corsicana Independent School District serves Angus students. Rail remains close by.

Angus grew around transportation and a small rural school system. The original schoolhouse was a two-room frame building that moved several times before a brick school replaced it. In the 1970s, Angus held a local liquor election and later drew business from alcohol sales in a mostly dry county. Those details give the place a practical Texas history: a railroad stop, a school community, and a small city finding its own commercial lane just south of the county’s larger center. Angus remains compact, but I-45 makes its connection to Corsicana and the wider Navarro County map immediate.
