About Aurora

Aurora is a Sevier County city in central Utah, settled along a bend of the Sevier River in 1875. The first community was called Willowbend, a name that came from the way homes followed the river; later settlers took the name Aurora. Irrigation shaped the town early: in 1879 residents bought and enlarged a canal, then added others to carry water through the valley’s fields. Today the Sevier River and surrounding mountain ranges still give Aurora its geography, while agriculture and nearby coal country remain part of the regional story. Aurora is a Utah river settlement whose town name and water system both begin with the bend.
