Autaugaville, AL

Autaugaville is an Autauga County town on Alabama State Route 14, about fourteen miles east of Prattville and twenty-four miles west of Selma. The 2020 census counted 795 residents, and the town is part of the Montgomery metropolitan area. William Thompson, remembered as the first settler at the site, arrived around 1820 and built a gristmill and sawmill on Swift Creek about three miles upriver from the Alabama River.

Water still gives Autaugaville its shape. Swift Creek feeds Crystal Lake, and the town sits within the Alabama River watershed, with low roads and wooded creek country around the central street. Autaugaville School serves students from prekindergarten through grade 12 as part of the Autauga County School System, keeping education close to the town's daily life. Route 14 points east toward Prattville and west toward Selma, so the town works as both a local community and a small stop between larger places in central Alabama. The town is close to both streams and roads.
