About Avon

Avon is a Stearns County city in the St. Cloud metro, laid out in 1873 among a cluster of lakes and farm roads. The 2020 census counted 1,618 residents. The community took its name from England's River Avon, but the local names are much more Minnesota-specific: Upper Spunk, Middle Spunk, and Lower Spunk lakes sit around town. Interstate 94, U.S. 52, and county roads keep Avon tied to St. Cloud and the wider central Minnesota map. The Lake Wobegon Trail gives Avon a long bike-and-walking route through the area, with a trailhead park and a city beach on Middle Spunk Lake.

Spunktacular Days turns the lake names into a local joke and a summer gathering, while the Avon Lakers keep amateur baseball on the seasonal calendar. The lakes, trail, school routes, and highway exits give the city a very readable shape. Avon's local scoop is a small central Minnesota city where three Spunk lakes, a famous trail, and a baseball team make the place memorable.
