Avon, UT

Avon is a Cache County census-designated place first settled in 1860 and named for Avon, England, the home of many early settlers. A post office operated here from 1894 to 1919, giving the community a short but useful paper trail. Avon is also the birthplace of Reuben D. Law, who became the first president of the Church College of Hawaii, later Brigham Young University–Hawaii. With a 2020 population of 390 and about 7.1 square miles of land, Avon is a small northern Utah place whose story links a transplanted English name, a former post office, and one notable educator.
