About Avonia

Avonia is a village and census-designated place in northwestern Fairview Township, tucked between Lake Erie and the inland parts of Erie County. Pennsylvania Route 5 follows the lakefront, while Avonia Road runs south through the community toward Fairview and Interstate 90. Avonia had 1,217 residents in 2020. Trout Run reaches Lake Erie at Avonia Beach, giving the place its most recognizable local feature: a small shoreline park where steelhead anglers and sunset watchers meet the lake. Fairview Township bought the 3.6-acre Avonia Beach Park in 2006 to keep public lake access at the mouth of Trout Run.

The park has fishing areas, a pond, a beach, and a house used for community events. Behind the lakefront road, Avonia is a residential piece of the Erie metro, with Fairview to the south and Erie about eleven miles northeast. It is the kind of place where a creek, a two-lane road, and Lake Erie do most of the local storytelling, and where the weather off the water is part of the neighborhood conversation.
