Baggs, WY

Baggs is a Carbon County town in the Little Snake River Valley, 76 miles from Rawlins and near the Colorado line. The 2020 census counted 411 residents. It was incorporated in 1910, and Wyoming Highway 789 now runs through the town along a route that crosses the Continental Divide. The Little Snake River communities—Dixon, Savery, and Slater—sit nearby, so Baggs works as a small valley center even with long distances between towns.

The Outlaw Stop, a branch of the Little Snake River Museum, occupies the Mathews/Gaddis House and the old Baggs Town Hall, Fire Station, and Jail. Little Snake River Valley School serves the town with a K–12 campus and the Rattlers mascot. Town council meetings and valley school events keep that long-distance setting connected to regular local routines. The result is a place where a frontier museum, school, town hall, and highway sit inside the same wide-open valley map. Baggs is remote, but its local landmarks are unusually easy to name.
