About Bailey's Prairie
Bailey’s Prairie is a Brazoria County village on State Highway 35 and Farm Road 521 between Angleton and West Columbia. James Britton “Brit” Bailey arrived in 1818 with a Spanish land grant, and the village grew around his plantation and the prairie’s early sugar and cattle operations. A Methodist church was organized here in 1839, and a roadside historic landmark now marks Bailey’s name. Angleton schools serve the local area. Bailey’s Prairie is a Southeast Texas place where flat prairie, old ranch land, highway, and one pioneer’s name still meet.
