Baltic, OH

Baltic is a village spread across Coshocton, Holmes, and Tuscarawas counties, a multi-county place in the rolling country of east-central Ohio. The 2020 census counted 851 residents. It was platted as Rowville in 1848 before taking the Baltic name. The village’s county lines are part of its practical setting: Baltic sits among Amish communities and rural roads, yet also has a manufacturing landmark in The Genie Company’s garage-door-opener factory.

Raber’s Almanac for the Amish community is published in Baltic, giving the village a business and cultural connection to the surrounding Amish country. Baltic also earned Tree City USA recognition in 1982, while its factory adds industrial work to the village map. Local businesses, churches, and the factory fill out a compact center that serves a wide rural area. The village center is also a stopping point for nearby rural roads. Baltic is a small Ohio village whose story runs across three counties, from a renamed nineteenth-century town site to an almanac publisher and a national garage-door brand.
