Barview, OR

Barview is a Coos County CDP of 1,890 residents in the 2020 census, seven miles west of Coos Bay along Cape Arago Highway and opposite the entrance to Coos Bay. It is an unincorporated coastal community, so the highway, bay, and nearby Charleston area do most of the orienting. Coos Bay School District 9 serves local students, with Marshfield High School as the district’s comprehensive high school. Coos Bay supplies the nearest larger service center. Cape Arago Highway is the local thread.

It runs from Coos Bay through Barview toward Charleston, Bastendorff Beach, and the state parks on the cape, while the Coos Bay estuary brings working-waterfront geography close by. Cape Arago State Park at the end of the road has tidepools, beach trails, fishing access, and views toward Coos Bay’s shipping channel. The local scoop is a South Coast community where school routes and ordinary errands point east, while the road west opens into beaches, headlands, and bay water.
