About Bay Shore

Bay Shore’s ferry terminals connect Long Island’s South Shore with Fire Island communities including Atlantique, Fair Harbor, Kismet, Ocean Beach, and Saltaire. The Town of Islip hamlet and census-designated place adjoins Great South Bay and had 29,244 residents in 2020. It lies about 42 miles from Manhattan, with the Southern State Parkway forming its northern boundary. One of Long Island’s older hamlets, Bay Shore became a weekend and summer destination after the Long Island Rail Road provided access from New York City. During World War I, it served as headquarters of the First Yale Unit, a United States Naval Air Reserve unit. A water park opened beside the marina at Benjamin Beach in 2010.
