About Bear Creek
Bear Creek is a small village in Hays County inside the 687-acre Bear Creek Oaks subdivision, about 16 miles by road southwest of downtown Austin. The 2020 census counted 397 residents. The village was established in November 1997, and the subdivision itself supplies the village's street pattern. Austin's city limits come within about 80 feet across RR 1826. That puts Bear Creek in an Austin-adjacent spot: close enough to share the metro's roads and daily service network, yet governed as its own small village.
Residents are served by Dripping Springs Independent School District, with Sycamore Elementary, Sycamore Middle, and Dripping Springs High School in the district. North Hays County Fire and Rescue provides fire and EMS, and Oakhill Station handles postal service. Bear Creek itself is a residential subdivision community rather than a traditional main-street town; local orientation comes from RR 1826, the subdivision roads, and the short run into Austin. Its defining feature is the overlap of village boundary and big-city edge.
