About Bear Rocks
Bear Rocks is a Fayette County census-designated place in Bullskin Township, stretched along the south side of PA 31 on the western slope of Chestnut Ridge. The elevation runs from about 1,150 feet in the Jacobs Creek valley to 2,196 feet near Kreinbrook Hill Road and Sky Top Road, giving the place a ridge-and-valley shape. Bear Rocks also has a local namesake beyond the CDP: Bullskin Township’s historical society points to a separate rocky area with formations, passageways, and caves that was once used as a picnic ground. A side trail connects the CDP to the Appalachian Trail, so Bear Rocks has one foot in ridge geography and another in the older stories about the rocks themselves.
