Beaufort is a town and the county seat of Carteret County, North Carolina, situated in the state's Inner Banks region. Established in 1713 as the third-oldest town in the state, the maritime community of approximately 4,689 hosts the Duke University Marine Laboratory and the North Carolina Maritime Museum.
