About Beaver
Beaver is the county seat of the Oklahoma Panhandle, a town that began beside the Beaver River as a fur-trading post and stop on the Jones and Plummer Trail. The county courthouse gives it the formal role, while the Jones and Plummer Trail Museum fills in the older wagon-and-trading story. A mile north, Beaver Dunes gives the town a stretch of sand to play on. Then there is the event that gives Beaver its strangest annual headline: the World Cow Chip Throwing Championship, held with a parade and carnival. Beaver is a Panhandle town where cattle-country history, deep sand, and a very specific festival all share the same map.
