About Bechtelsville

Bechtelsville is a Berks County borough that grew from a few homes and several mills, then took the family name of Isaac Bechtel's German immigrant line. The post office arrived in 1852, the Colebrookdale Railroad reached the area in 1869, and an iron furnace followed in 1875. For a while there were hotels, stores, a creamery, and a two-room schoolhouse; later Route 100 moved east and rail service ended. Bechtelsville is southeastern Pennsylvania in a mill-and-railroad story.
