About Beckwourth

Beckwourth lies in eastern Plumas County, east of Portola in the Sierra Valley. The post office opened as Beckwith in 1870 and changed to Beckwourth in 1932, preserving the name in the region's overland history. The 2020 census counted 478 residents. The community's modern map includes Beckwourth-Nervino Airport, a county-managed general aviation field, and the state maintenance facilities named in the local record.

Plumas Unified School District includes Beckwourth (Jim) High, a continuation high school, while students elsewhere in the valley connect through the district's wider campuses. Plumas County's airport planning documents keep Beckwourth-Nervino in the county's public infrastructure map, and the county maintains planning, wildfire, meeting, and airport information for the area. A Caltrans maintenance station and state water-management yard add working public facilities to the settlement. Airport planning and land-use documents keep flight operations attached to the community. The airport also has a county land-use plan. Beckwourth is a small Sierra Valley community whose routines extend through schools, aviation, and highway work.
