About Bedford Park
Bedford Park is a tiny home-rule village on Chicago's southwest edge with an unusual split personality: a compact residential pocket sits beside large industrial properties. The village is near Midway Airport and Archer Road, so Chicago is close in one direction and the Illinois & Michigan Canal corridor runs through the local history in another. The 2020 census counted 602 residents. Bedford Park District parks, Walker Elementary, and village departments serve the residential side, while the surrounding industrial landscape shapes the roads and land use.

One of the village's more unusual institutions is the Institute for Food Safety and Health on Archer Road, an Illinois Tech facility that works with the FDA on food-safety research and training. Walker Elementary serves younger students, and older students attend Argo Community High School in Summit. That mix gives Bedford Park its local shape: parks and schools are tucked into a small residential area, with factories, research facilities, the canal corridor, and airport access immediately around it. It is the kind of place where the village boundary tells only part of the story.
