About Bellerive Acres

Bellerive Acres is a small St. Louis County city in Normandy Township, where the 2020 census counted 191 residents. Residents changed the village's name and status in 2015, creating the fourth-class city of Bellerive Acres. The name carries the neighborhood's older connection to Bellerive Country Club, whose former Normandy grounds now sit largely under the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Normandy High School remains the district's comprehensive high school, keeping a local school campus in the surrounding suburban landscape.

The country club moved west to Town and Country in 1959 after the Normandy School District purchased its 128-acre grounds for $600,000. The clubhouse became the Normandy Residence Center in 1960 and later UMSL's first Administration Building; the university grew around the old fairways and lake. Bellerive Acres still includes the UMSL Chancellor's Residence and a bird sanctuary tied to early property owners. It is a compact suburb with an unusual map: residential streets, university land, and a country-club past sharing the same few blocks.
