Belva, WV

The town is situated at the bottomland surrounding the convergence of Bells Creek with Twentymile Creek and, subsequently, Twenty Mile Creek with the Gauley River. The 2020 census counted 78, residents. Belva is also the location of the convergence of two state highways: West Virginia Route 16 and West Virginia Route 39. The community is named in honor of Belva Ann Lockwood, a presidential candidate and early feminist. The through line in Belva is the way its history and present-day settings remain visible on the same map. Belva makes the most sense through those concrete details, with its history still visible in the settings people use today. The Belva post office was established in 1885.
