About Benton

Benton is a Ringgold County city on the Grand River, seven miles west of Mount Ayr. In 1918 it had churches, a bank, a post office, the Chicago Great Western Railway, and a commercial base tied to grain, lumber, and hardware. A consolidated high school opened in 1916 and graduated 236 students before closing after 1958; Mount Ayr Community School District now includes Benton in its rural service area.
