Bergholz is a village in Jefferson County, Ohio, United States. The 2020 census counted 544 residents. The village's name is German and translates to "mountain timber". Bergholz is part of the Weirton–Steubenville metropolitan area. The short version is that Bergholz carries an earlier story into the places people know and use now. That is the local read on Bergholz: its past remains attached to the places people use now. Initially, the Bergholz area was a settlement called Nebo. Modern Bergholz had its start in 1883 when the railroad was built through that territory in order to access a mine.
