Bethesda, OH

Bethesda is a village in west-central Belmont County, part of the Wheeling metropolitan area. Its name came after earlier identities as Burrs Mills and Fairmount, and the arrival of the Central Ohio Railroad in 1852 gave the village a station and a regular connection to the county's farm country. The old railroad story remains useful for understanding Bethesda: it grew around movement of people and goods, then settled into the pattern of a small village amid farms and roads in western Belmont County.

Today the Bethesda Public Library operates as a Belmont County District Library branch, giving the village a civic room for reading, programs, and local information. A few miles away, Epworth Park adds a larger seasonal gathering place, with the July Chautauqua Days Festival, a lake setting, and historic cottages. County roads lead past barns and working fields, and bicycling routes use that rural landscape as part of their route. Bethesda's daily geography is easy to picture: a small village center, a library branch, nearby farm country, and Wheeling's metro orbit.
