Bethlehem, NH

Bethlehem is a White Mountains town that began as Lloyd Hills, a 1774 grant, and took its present name when it was incorporated on December 27, 1799. Early families farmed and worked mills; stagecoaches later used Main Street on routes toward Crawford Notch and the upper country. The railroad reached Bethlehem Junction in the 1870s, opening the door to a grand hotel era that included the Maplewood complex, which could host hundreds of guests. Bethlehem is an old mountain town where farm roads, rail travel, and summer hotels left deep marks.
