Bethune, SC

Bethune is a quiet rural town in Kershaw County, South Carolina, located about 20 miles northeast of Camden and 35 miles southwest of Cheraw. With around 300 residents, it offers a slow-paced lifestyle centered around the intersection of U.S. Route 1 and Highway 341. Originally settled as Lynchwood in the 1820s, the community grew around the railroad and was renamed in honor of local landowner Daniel Murdock Bethune when it incorporated in 1900.

Life here revolves around the outdoors and close-knit community traditions. The Lynches River flows just east of town, providing nearby spots for fishing, paddling, and enjoying the peaceful scenery. The town's biggest celebration is the annual Bethune Chicken Strut, a long-running festival with a Main Street parade, classic car show, carnival rides, and live music.
