About Birch Run
Birch Run began in 1852 as a Pere Marquette Railroad station founded by John Moore, its first postmaster. The town took its name from the creek running through a large birch area, then briefly became Deer Lick in 1863 before returning to Birch Run in 1868. The village incorporated in 1955. Birch Run is a Saginaw County place whose name had a short detour, but whose railroad beginning and birch-lined creek never really went away.
