About Bishop
Bishop is the only incorporated city in Inyo County, California, situated at an elevation of 4,150 feet in the northern Owens Valley. Located west of the Owens River, the city was named after Bishop Creek and pioneer settler Samuel Addison Bishop. The community's history is deeply connected to regional water rights, following the 1913 diversion of the Owens River into the Los Angeles Aqueduct. Today local public education is provided by the Bishop Unified School District.
