About Bloomington
Bloomington is a Victoria County community that began as a railroad station and then became a crossroads. The St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railway built through in 1906, the post office opened in 1907, and the town was laid out in 1910 by Burton, Wharton, and Wilson. A branch to Port O’Connor made Bloomington a rail junction, and oil discovery in 1947 added another chapter. The Bloomington school district began in a lumberyard in 1908 and still covers a wide rural area. Bloomington is a South Texas place where rail, ranch country, oil, and school history meet at the same crossroads.
